Can-Am · Sport
The Can-Am Maverick Sport X is Can-Am's trail-focused sport side-by-side, running the 976cc V-twin rated at 100 hp on a narrower, lighter chassis with FOX 2.5 Podium shocks and a factory 4,500 lb winch. It has 14.8 in of travel, 15 in of ground clearance, a 90.6 in wheelbase and a 10 gal tank, at $18,499; 2027 Can-Am Maverick Sport X specifications and price.
What a test found
Dirt Wheels tested the earlier Sport X RC and says the 7.6-inch digital display with keypad shows tachometer, speedometer, 4x4 selection, engine temperature and more, that the stock beadlock wheels, 30-inch tires and impressive 4x4 selections complement the willing, energetic Rotax 1000R engine, and that the Fox shocks offer a comfortable ride but the QS3 shocks are limited to three quick and easy compression damping choices.
It recalls that Can-Am first entered the high-performance UTV market with the original Maverick and its 100-horsepower Rotax 1000 V-twin engine, the ancestor of this machine's engine.
Can-Am lists an arched double A-arm front with a sway bar and a TTA rear with a sway bar and bottom-out control, FOX 2.5 Podium piggyback shocks with QS3 and 14.8 in of travel at each end, and XPS Trac Force 30 x 10-14 tires. Drive is selectable 2WD or 4WD with an auto-locking front differential, Dynamic Power Steering and Sport and Eco modes.
The machine weighs an estimated 1,605 lb dry, has a 1,500 lb tow rating and a 300 lb bed, and seats two.
Sport X against the 999cc sport rivals.
At $18,499 the Sport X is the cheapest of the group: $1,500 below Polaris's RZR XP 1000 Sport at $19,999, $2,400 below Yamaha's YXZ1000R at $20,899, and $5,300 below Honda's Talon 1000R at $23,799. It weighs 1,605 lb, close to Honda's 1,607 lb and heavier than the Talon 1000X at 1,565 lb. The V-twin makes 100 hp.
So it is less powerful than some 999cc rivals, and it has the winch that most of them lack.
Maverick Sport X against the RZR XP 1000 Sport and YXZ1000R.
Polaris's RZR XP 1000 Sport and Yamaha's YXZ1000R are the closest sport rivals in price.
2027 Can-Am Maverick Sport X compared to the Maverick X3 DS Turbo
Both are Can-Am's two-seat sport side-by-sides, but the engines are not the same family scaled differently: the Maverick X3's 900cc triple is turbocharged to 135 hp, against this model's naturally aspirated 976cc V-twin at 100 hp, and Can-Am's own spec sheets show the X3 with 20 in of suspension travel front and rear against this model's 14.8 in.
That gap in travel and power tracks an 11.4-in-longer wheelbase on the X3 (102 in versus 90.6 in) and a $1,500 higher price: the Maverick Sport X is built as the shorter, tighter-handling trail machine in Can-Am's sport lineup, not a detuned version of the X3.
