A low-displacement youth motorcycle and a touring motorcycle are both in the motorcycle group, but they do different jobs. Comparing their prices does not measure the value of either.
Use the class and the intended task to narrow the list before interpreting the difference in dollars. Equipment, seating, road certification and the model’s own operator category still need to match the buyer’s use.
MSRP is the first line of the quote
Ask for the selling price, destination or freight, preparation, accessories, taxes, title and registration as separate lines. A discount on the machine can be offset by another charge. The destination-charge comparison separates the posted delivery amounts, and the financing guide explains why a lower monthly payment can still cost more over the full term.
A median is the middle value after sorting, or the mean of the two middle values for an even-sized group. A very expensive flagship therefore changes the median less than it can change the average.
That does not make the median a price quote for any particular machine. Inspect the named record and obtain a current quote for the exact year, market, trim and color before setting a purchase budget.

- What a starting price buys across 362 current models; Three medians, five price bands and the gap between an ATV and a UTV.
Blog
Across the 348 current models with a published starting price, the median motorcycle costs $10,798, the median ATV $7,799 and the median UTV $19,899. ATVs cluster tightly. 43 of the 51 sit between $2,499 and $12,000. UTVs run about 2.6 times the ATV median, and 32 of 48 start at $16,000 or more.
Motorcycles spread the widest, from $1,899 to $49,999, and 13 Yamaha, KTM, Triumph, Ducati and BMW models list no price on the page at all. Every figure is a starting MSRP as the manufacturer published it, before destination charge, dealer fees and options.

Three medians and one wide gap
A median is the middle price: half the models cost less, half cost more; it resists the pull of one very expensive model, which an average does not. That matters here, because every class has a flagship far above the rest.
The medians rest on 249 priced motorcycles, 51 ATVs and 48 UTVs. Much of the gap between an ATV and a UTV comes from the machine: a side-by-side carries two or more seats, a roll cage and a bigger frame, so it is a different object. The medians show where each class starts once you commit to one.
Motorcycles: the widest spread in the lineup
The cheapest current motorcycle is the 2027 Yamaha PW50 at $1,899; the most expensive is the 2026 Harley-Davidson CVO Street Glide at $49,999. That is a spread of $48,100, more than any other class, and it is wider than the price of the median ATV.
Class explains part of it. Among the motorcycle classes with at least three priced models, the median runs from youth trail at $2,599 up to touring at $25,999.
Brand matters too. Among brands with at least two priced models, Honda has the lowest median at $6,799 and Harley-Davidson the highest at $21,299. Two causes could produce that gap. A high brand median may come from the classes a brand sells rather than from what it charges for a given machine.
ATVs: the tightest group
Most ATVs land in one band. 16 of the 51 start between $8,000 and $11,999, and only 2 start at $16,000 or more; the cheapest is the 2027 Yamaha YFZ50 at $2,499. The dearest is the 2027 Polaris Scrambler XP 1000 S at $16,499.
Utility models make up 30 of the 51, with a median of $9,399; sport models number 6 and their median is $11,499. The sport median is 1.2 times the utility median, which makes class the clearest price signal in the ATV group.
Brand medians run from $5,199 for Kawasaki to $12,999 for Can-Am; the gap between them is $7,800. That is smaller than the gap between one motorcycle class and the next.
UTVs: about double the ATV price
The cheapest UTV in the set, the 2026 Polaris Ranger 150 EFI , starts at $6,499. That sits $1,300 below the median ATV; the most expensive, the 2026 Polaris RZR Pro R , starts at $43,999.
By class, the median runs from youth at $6,749 up to adventure at $39,499.
Among brands with at least two priced UTVs, Kawasaki has the lowest median at $18,199. Polaris has the highest at $22,899.
What a starting price leaves out
A starting MSRP leaves out four things
First, the destination charge. Most current model pages list one separately. At the median it adds $620 to an ATV and $1,248 to a UTV; the destination charge post counts which brands list it.
Second, options and trims. A price that starts low can rise with a winch, power steering or a higher trim; third, dealer fees, which vary by dealer. Fourth, the price a machine actually sells for, which can sit above or below the sticker.
How to use these numbers
Compare within a class first. A $7,799 ATV and a $19,899 UTV answer different questions, and a price comparison across them tells you nothing about value.
Then add the destination charge and a realistic figure for the options you would actually buy. That total, not the sticker, is what to hold against a budget; the new versus used page walks through what a starting price does and does not tell you about ownership cost.
- Finally, check the price with a dealer
- Manufacturers change prices between model years and sometimes within one.
Starting prices across 362 models questions
What is the median starting price of a current ATV?
$7,799, across the 51 current ATVs with a published price; half start below that figure and half above. It is a starting MSRP before destination charge, dealer fees and options.
How much does a current UTV cost to start?
The median is $19,899 across 48 models, and the range runs from $6,499 to $43,999; those are published starting prices, so the price you pay adds a destination charge and any options.
What is the median starting price of a new motorcycle here?
- $10,798, across 249 motorcycles with a published price
- The spread is wide, from $1,899 to $49,999, so the median describes the middle of a very uneven group.
Why use a median instead of an average price?
A median is the middle model, so one very expensive flagship cannot drag it upward; every class here has a flagship far above the rest, which would inflate an average and describe a machine almost nobody is shopping for.
How many times more does a UTV cost than an ATV?
- About 2.6 times at the median: $19,899 against $7,799
- The gap comes from the machine, not a markup, since a side-by-side has more seats, a roll cage and a larger frame.
Which is the cheapest ATV with a listed price?
The 2027 Yamaha YFZ50, at $2,499 starting MSRP. The dearest is the 2027 Polaris Scrambler XP 1000 S at $16,499.
Does a starting price include the destination charge?
No. A starting MSRP covers the base machine only. Destination charge, dealer fees, taxes and options come on top, and the destination charge alone is listed separately on most model pages.
Are these prices what dealers actually charge?
Not necessarily. They are the manufacturer's published starting prices; a dealer can price above or below them, add fees, or apply incentives, so treat the figure as a reference point rather than a quote.
Do price bands differ much between the three classes?
Yes. Almost every ATV starts between $2,499 and $12,000, while 32 of 48 UTVs start at $16,000 or more; motorcycles fall across all five bands, which is why their spread is the widest.
Do manufacturers change starting prices during a model year?
Sometimes. Prices move between model years and occasionally within one, so recheck a price with a dealer before relying on it; the figures here are the published prices as of September 2026.
Can I compare a motorcycle price with an ATV price directly?
You can, but it says little. The machines do different jobs, so a price comparison across classes does not measure value; compare within a class, then weigh the extras each machine brings.
- New versus used: what a price tells you
- The starting price against the cost of owning the machine.
- Models by brand
- Each model page carries its starting price next to the full specification table.

Engine size and price: does a bigger engine cost more? (362 models); Within a class the bigger engine costs more: 105% more for ATVs, 150% for motorcycles, 43% for UTVs.
