Yamaha ATVs: specifications and model differences

Yamaha

Yamaha’s youth, sport and utility quads need different comparisons. The 49cc YFZ50 lists at $2,499 and the 449cc YFZ450R at $10,999; that larger sport engine is not a youth-size upgrade. Use the model records to check rider class and equipment.

Youth, manual sport quads and utility machines

Youth. The YFZ50 is the smallest, and the 112cc Raptor 110 and Grizzly 110 are the sport and utility styles of the same quad.

Sport. The YFZ450R is the race quad with no reverse, and the Raptor 700R is the big sport quad with reverse.

Utility. The Kodiak 450 EPS is the mid-size, and the Kodiak 700 EPS and Grizzly EPS share the 686cc engine.

Which Yamaha ATV to buy

The Kodiak 450 at $7,799 is the value mid-size, and Off-Road Official says the Kodiak 700 at $9,499 has a bulletproof 686cc engine but only mid-pack power. The Grizzly EPS at $10,599 tows 1,300 lb, and ATV On Demand calls it one of the best-handling full-size 4x4s. For sport riding, Dirt Wheels says the YFZ450R gearbox has an excellent reliability reputation but no reverse.

What to check before buying a Yamaha ATV

Youth quads need a fit check: the child must reach the levers with the bars at full lock, and the Raptor 110 and Grizzly 110 share an engine but differ in seat height by 0.8 in. The Kodiak 700's model year matters because of the engine history, so ask which engine a used one has. The Grizzly's owner complaints are overheating and suspension wear, so look at the radiator and the shocks.

The YFZ450R is a race quad without reverse, so it needs open ground. Ask the dealer about the destination charge on each model.
