Parental controls on the Ranger 150

The controls are what set this vehicle apart. Popular Mechanics says speed limiting is done through Ride Command, which pairs a phone to the vehicle to control speed, territory through geofencing, and startup, and notes a seat-belt interlock that enforces belt use, plus an adjustable steering wheel and driver's seat to keep up with growth spurts. Outdoor Troop adds that Youth Ride Control lets parents manage speed and set boundaries through geofences, and says the adjustable seat lets an adult sit in the driver seat with a child to teach.

Speed, size and what is missing on the Ranger 150

The Ranger 150 is a small truck, and slow. Popular Mechanics says it is seven feet long and four feet wide with a dry weight near 700 lb, that in unrestricted mode it does 29 mph, which is fast enough for thrills, and that the 150cc single uses electronic fuel injection. So a parent does not deal with cantankerous startup behavior.

Outdoor Troop says the Ranger 150 can break speeds of about 30 mph, calls low torque a problem, notes that the factory version has no top or real windshield, and lists the safety equipment: a protective cage, seat-belt interlock, nets, a safety flag and two helmets. A Dirt Wheels test describes an air-cooled, 149cc fuel-injected engine with plenty of ponies to put smiles on kids' faces.

Ranger 150 EFI against the RZR 200 EFI

Polaris's RZR 200 EFI is the sport-styled twin of the Ranger 150. It shares the cage, seat belt and safety nets and costs $500 more at $6,999, with a 180cc engine against the Ranger's 150cc. The Ranger has a 50 lb bed and the RZR a 25 lb one.

Polaris’s youth vehicle guidance identifies Ranger 150 EFI and RZR 200 EFI for drivers ages 10 and older with adult supervision. Follow the individual operator guide for passenger age, seating and protective equipment; geofencing and a speed limiter do not replace those requirements.

Polaris · Youth

The 2026 Polaris Ranger 150 EFI is a 150cc, two-wheel-drive youth utility side-by-side with a protective cage, seat belts, safety nets and Ride Command controls. It costs $6,499 plus $595 destination, weighs an estimated 673 lb dry and has a 50 lb bed. Polaris limits it to under 16 mph at the factory, and a supervising adult can raise the limit.

It is a first vehicle for a child who wants to drive, and its parental controls are the main reason to choose it over a power-wheels toy or a youth ATV.

2026 Polaris Ranger 150 EFI questions

How fast does a Polaris Ranger 150 EFI go?

Polaris restricts it to under 16 mph at the factory, and a supervising adult can adjust the limit. Popular Mechanics notes speed can be limited through the Ride Command app, down to Power Wheels speed.

Does the Ranger 150 EFI have a seat belt interlock?

Yes. Popular Mechanics notes a seat-belt interlock that enforces belt use, and Messick's found that the RZR 200, its sibling, drives only about five mph if the belt is not locked.

The Ranger 150 is a heavy machine, about 673 lb, and Popular Mechanics jokes that it can be restricted to Power Wheels speed until you are comfortable with your child's ability to control the vector of those 700 pounds. It is meant for supervised use in a yard, on a farm or on trails. The seat belts and cage are the main safety features.

A child too young to steer a full-size wheel may do better on a smaller ride-on.
