Polaris Phoenix 200 specifications, dimensions and price

Polaris · Youth

Polaris identifies Phoenix 200 as a transition ATV for ages 14 and older. Its 196cc engine, automatic transmission and shaft final drive differ from the chain-drive 110cc models. Follow its own operator manual for fit, speed controls and inspection; confidence on a smaller ATV alone does not establish readiness.

A transition model with its own drivetrain

The Phoenix’s 196cc carbureted engine and shaft final drive differ from the fuel-injected, chain-drive Outlaw 110. Use the Phoenix’s final-drive service instructions rather than a youth-chain adjustment procedure. The 2024 Phoenix owner manual is an edition-specific example of the instructions; obtain the matching model-year book for a different machine.

Compare size without using height as an age exemption

A 32-inch seat is five inches higher than the 27-inch seat listed for Outlaw 110, and the 45-inch wheelbase is 3.5 inches longer. Those differences help identify which controls and storage spaces need a physical check. They do not change Polaris’s 14-and-older category or the requirement for adult supervision of younger operators.

The Phoenix’s $4,999 base price plus $300 destination is $5,299 before the dealer’s other charges and tax. Its listed 420 lb estimated dry weight is not comparable directly with a rival’s wet weight.

Include fuel, accessories and loading equipment when checking a trailer’s payload. A 215 lb vehicle payload limit is a separate rating from the ATV’s own weight; it does not establish a passenger seating position.

Polaris · Youth

The Polaris Phoenix 200 is the largest of Polaris's youth ATVs: a 196cc single with a shaft-driven automatic PVT, a factory speed limit under 20 mph, and a 215 lb payload rating. Polaris prices it at $4,999 plus destination, well above the 110cc youth models in both size and cost; 2026 Polaris Phoenix 200 specifications and price.

What owners report

Time for Wheels reports a recall that Polaris issued in April 2018 for an issue it says many owners of the model have met, and one owner who had to replace drum brakes within a year of buying the machine because of wear. The reviewer adds that the rear brakes are not up to par, though it does not call that a serious problem.

Offroad Monsters lists the problems people report, from engine to suspension issues, and singles out throttle speed control, and suggests checking the transmission belt. Both are compiled guides, so check the machine's VIN against Polaris's recall lookup rather than relying on them.

Who it is for

At 420 lb, the Phoenix 200 is close in size to an adult sport quad. So it suits an older, larger child who has outgrown a 110. Its shaft drive means no chain to adjust, which saves maintenance. Look at the Can-Am DS 250 if you want a larger engine, or drop to a 110 if the rider is small.

What to check on a used one

Check the drum brakes for wear, confirm the throttle limiter is working and the belt is intact, and ask whether the 2018 recall work was done. Those are the items the owner reports point to.

What the federal safety guidance says about youth quads

The CPSC ATV safety page says riders younger than 16 should drive only age-appropriate youth models. The Phoenix 200 is the largest of Polaris's youth machines at 420 lb and 196cc, which makes the age label more important than on a 70 or 110: a small or inexperienced child on a 420 lb quad is the mismatch the guidance is written against.

Polaris limits it under 20 mph at the factory, and the helmet, eye protection, boots, gloves and long clothing the CPSC recommends apply on every ride.

How much bigger it is than the 110s.

The numbers explain why the age label matters. Against the Sportsman 110, the Phoenix 200 is 131 lb heavier (an estimated 420 lb against 289 lb), carries a 215 lb payload against 180 lb, costs $1,000 more and is limited to under 20 mph rather than under 15. It also uses a shaft drive instead of the 110's O-ring chain.

So there is no chain to lube and tension but also nothing a parent can adjust with a wrench. The jump from a 110 to a 200 is large, and a rider who is still working on braking and turning on the 110 is not ready for it.

A seasonal inspection list for a parent

The owner reports point to a short list that a parent can check before each riding season. Inspect the transmission belt for glazing or cracks, since the belt carries all the power to a shaft drive that has no second gear to fall back on. Check the drum brakes for wear by testing how firmly the machine stops from a walking pace on level ground, and compare the front and rear feel.

Confirm the throttle limiter and speed control still work as intended, because a throttle that sticks or a limiter that has been changed leaves a young rider with a quad that is faster than they expect. Finally, look up the VIN for open recalls before the first ride of the year.

Can-Am's DS 250 is the larger youth rival at $5,149, and Polaris's own Outlaw 110 is the step below. The Phoenix sits between them.
