Polaris RZR Trail — specification reference

Polaris lists a 75 hp, 875cc engine for the Trail, while the Trail S 1000 uses a 100 hp, 999cc engine. Keep those names attached to a review or specification. A test of a Trail S 1000 does not establish the output or chassis dimensions of the narrower Trail.

The 2026 Polaris RZR Trail is the base of Polaris's RZR Trail family, a 75 hp, 875cc twin with true on-demand AWD and 2WD, 11 in of ground clearance and a 110.9 in overall length. It costs $16,999 plus $1,095 destination, and the RZR Trail S is $21,999.

It has half doors, ZF twin-tube shocks with 10 in of travel, a 300 lb box, a 740 lb payload and a 1,500 lb tow rating. It is a comfortable trail machine that can also carry a little, and it suits a rider who wants a recreational RZR at a modest price.

2026 Polaris RZR Trail specifications and price

Who the RZR Trail suits

The RZR Trail is the easy RZR. Its 75 hp is modest for the family, and its 1,500 lb tow rating, 740 lb payload and 300 lb box make it more of a utility trail machine than a sport model. Its half doors and 10 in of ZF shock travel favor comfort over speed.

A buyer who wants sport performance should compare the RZR XP 1000 Sport, and one who wants to haul a lot should look at a Ranger.

UTV Action Magazine says the RZR Trail has a 75-horsepower 875cc ProStar twin, and that Polaris updated the 50-inch Trail and 60-inch Trail S lines for 2021.5 with the aggressive styling and roomier, more modern cockpit of the XP Turbo S. The reviewer notes the 999cc 100-horsepower twins on the Trail S Premium and Ultimate.

Dirt Wheels says the second-generation Trail S 1000 Ultimate costs half as much as a big sport machine and delivers agility, quick turn-to-turn acceleration, over a foot of suspension travel, strong brakes and a comfortable cabin.

Against the other trail machines

The RZR Trail costs $16,999, $3,000 less than the RZR XP 1000 Sport at $19,999, and at 1,255 lb dry it is 331 lb lighter than that machine. It is a 50-inch-wide trail machine with a 1,500 lb tow rating and a 300 lb bed. So it suits narrow trails where a wider sport machine will not fit.

Can-Am's Maverick Trail costs $15,499 and tows 1,500 lb too, so the two are close rivals. The Polaris has the larger 875cc engine against the Can-Am's 650cc. Buyers should compare width, since trail permits often set a maximum.

RZR Trail against the Teryx S LE, Maverick Sport X and RZR XP 1000 Sport.

Kawasaki's Teryx S LE is the closest trail rival at $15,499, Can-Am's Maverick Sport X is $18,499, and Polaris's own RZR XP 1000 Sport is a step up at $19,999. The RZR Trail's estimated 1,255 lb dry weight is the lowest listed, though makers state weight on different bases.

Polaris RZR Trail trims compared: Polaris RZR Trail S

The RZR Trail S is the bigger-engined, better-equipped version, and it costs $5,000 more. Dirt Wheels tested a Trail S 1000 Ultimate with the Adventurer Collection and found it so full of creature comforts to keep the elements out that riding opportunities increased, and notes that a RZR comes with more than double the horsepower of a Ranger SP 570, 100 against 44, plus Ride Command and a nicer riding suspension.

2026 Polaris RZR Trail questions

What is the difference between the Polaris RZR Trail and the RZR Trail S?

The Trail S has a larger engine and more equipment and costs $5,000 more, at $21,999 against $16,999. The Trail has a 75 hp, 875cc twin. Dirt Wheels notes a Trail S 1000 makes 100 hp.

Can a Polaris RZR Trail tow?

Yes, Polaris lists a 1,500 lb tow rating and a 740 lb payload, with a 300 lb box.

Width permission and a place to turn are different checks

For a trail plan, confirm the posted vehicle restrictions and the actual RZR configuration rather than assuming every RZR Trail fits every route. Accessories and tires can change the overall footprint from the stock description. Check the route's current access rules independently of the engine and seating specifications.

The 300 lb box allowance and 740 lb payload figure describe different constraints. The payload must account for the occupants and fitted equipment as the handbook directs; it is not all available for the box after people climb in. Use the actual passenger and cargo arrangement in the loading calculation, then apply the hitch and trailer instructions separately if towing is planned.
