Motorcycle News owner reviews of the 2021 bike are consistently warm. One owner in their sixties says the riding position is spot on and that the Ohlins suspension and 110 bhp make the bike easy and a pleasure to ride. Others say the engine feels stronger than the paper specifications suggest, that the handling and brakes are exceptional, that it is fast but comfortable for cruising around town, and that the seat is comfortable.

Owner reviews on a publisher's site are self-selected, so use them for the feel of the bike, not for reliability numbers.

The maintenance cost to know about

Ducati’s US SuperSport 950 specification lists service every 9,000 miles or 12 months and valve clearance checks every 18,000 miles. Ask for evidence of those services on a used bike; the 15,000-mile valve interval quoted by the secondary guide is inconsistent with the manufacturer’s current specification. Ducati US SuperSport 950 service schedule.

A missed Desmo service does not always cause damage. But the cost of catching up is on you.

The Supersport 950 suits a rider who wants a Ducati sport bike for the road with a comfortable riding position. It weighs 452 lb without fuel, 9 lb more than Triumph's Daytona 660, and costs less than the Panigale V2 by a wide margin. Compare it with the Daytona 660 and Honda CBR500R to see what the Ducati's larger engine costs and gives.

Base bike or the S

The Supersport 950 comes in two forms. The specification sheet lists the difference plainly. The base bike has a fully adjustable 43 mm Marzocchi fork and a Sachs monoshock on a progressive linkage.

While the S lists a fully adjustable 48 mm Ohlins fork and a fully adjustable Ohlins monoshock. Both share the 937cc engine, the 452 lb weight without fuel, the twin 320 mm front discs with Brembo M4-32 monobloc calipers and the 4.3-inch TFT display. The owner in their sixties quoted above praises Ohlins suspension, so check which trim any review describes before you assume the base bike rides the same way.

What the hardware says about how it rides

The numbers describe a sport bike that is meant to be used. The wheelbase is 58.3 in and the tank holds 4.2 US gallons; those figures do not establish fuel range. The seat at 31.9 in is low for a sport bike.

The 110 hp arrives at 9,000 rpm with 69 lb-ft at 6,500, so the torque comes low enough to ride in town without dropping a gear.

The Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tires are a 120/70 front and a 180/55 rear, a size that is easy to find and cheaper than the 190-section rear of a superbike. It is a two-seater on paper. But the passenger accommodation is a sport bike's, so treat the second seat as occasional.

Service intervals and the cost of a used one

Compare actual service quotes rather than assuming an ownership-cost difference from the country of manufacture. A bike with a stamped book and a recent valve check has been cared for.

One that has covered 20,000 miles without a receipt for the valve service needs a price adjustment or a walk away. Ducati's own warranty is 24 months with unlimited mileage. Confirm the warranty start date, transfer terms and market coverage for the specific used bike.

Supersport 950 against the Daytona 660 and CBR500R

Triumph's Daytona 660 and Honda's CBR500R are lighter and much cheaper. The Ducati has the larger engine and the higher power figure.

Motoryk lists one critical issue for the Supersport 950: an overdue Desmo valve service, an expensive neglected maintenance item, and advises asking for service records. The same source says the service is due every 15,000 miles. That interval is the reason to check the paperwork on any used one. A missed Desmo service does not always cause damage. But the cost of catching up is on you.

Ducati lists a service every 9,000 miles or 12 months and a valve clearance check at 18,000 miles, which is the Desmo service Motoryk warns about. That makes the bike more expensive to keep than a Japanese twin of similar size, and it is why the service history is the first thing to ask about on a used bike.

Ducati's own warranty is 24 months with unlimited mileage. So a used bike bought from a dealer inside that window still carries it.
