Comfort, deactivation and service interval

Total Motorcycle lists what changed from the Diavel 1260. Wheel travel is 120 mm at the front and 145 mm at the rear, 15 mm more than the 1260, the wide, raised handlebars sit closer to the rider's body, and the rear cylinder bank deactivates during stops with the engine running to reduce consumption and heat. The valve clearance check interval is 37,000 miles, a figure the maker describes as a reliability record.

For a bike costing nearly $28,000, that interval is the fact that most changes the cost of ownership.

Diavel V4 against the cruiser field

The listed Diavel specifications differ substantially from the traditional cruisers compared here. Triumph's Bonneville T120 makes a fraction of the power at $13,995, and Honda's Rebel 1100 is $9,699. The Diavel V4 costs $14,000 more than the Triumph.

Buy it if you want a cruiser with a superbike-derived engine and accept that luggage is an afterthought.

Diavel V4 or the XDiavel V4

Ducati sells a second cruiser on the same engine, the XDiavel V4. The choice is about posture. The XDiavel has a 30.3 in seat against the Diavel's 31.1 in, a 29 degree rake and a 63.8 in wheelbase, and it weighs 505 lb without fuel against 492 lb, at $28,995 against $27,995.

Both use the 168 hp V4 Granturismo and the 93 lb-ft it makes. The XDiavel is the longer, lower, more relaxed of the two and carries 13 lb more, so a rider who wants forward foot controls and a low seat should try it first, and one who wants the more upright, agile Diavel should not pay $1,000 extra for it.

Sit on the Diavel V4 first. Compare it with the XDiavel V4 on the same day.

Diavel V4 against the Bonneville T120 and Rebel 1100

Triumph's Bonneville T120 and Honda's Rebel 1100 are the traditional cruiser-class comparisons, both far cheaper. The comparison distinguishes the weight, power and price gaps.

Ducati Diavel V4 RS: equipment and specifications

The Ducati Diavel V4 RS puts the 1,103cc Desmosedici Stradale V4, rated at 182 hp and 89 lb-ft, in the Diavel chassis. Ducati lists 485 lb without fuel, a 31.1 in seat and a 5.3 gal tank, and the lineup shows a starting price of $39,995. It is the most expensive Diavel and the one built for track-derived performance.

Motorcycle News lists the RS extras: a superbike engine, uprated electronic rider aids and suspension, a billet aluminum STM-EVO SBK dry slipper clutch, carbon fiber parts, titanium exhaust tips and a lightweight lithium-ion battery. It also fits fully adjustable Ohlins suspension, lightweight wheels and Brembo Stylema brakes. The reviewer notes the RS is 3 kg lighter and even more impressive.

Total Motorcycle adds that the RS has a single-sided aluminum swingarm and forged wheels, and that it can command attention at low speeds while being fun to ride in a sporty style.

The RS costs $39,995 against $27,995 for the standard bike, a $12,000 gap for 14 more horsepower, suspension and brakes of a higher grade and a lighter build. The Bennetts review noted that Ducati had not confirmed the RS price at the time of writing and looked to the Multistrada range for a clue of the premium the badge carries.

If you ride mainly on the road, the standard Diavel V4 delivers most of the experience.

Ducati · Cruiser

The Ducati Diavel V4 is a power cruiser built around the 1,158cc V4 Granturismo engine, rated at 168 hp and 93 lb-ft with a six-speed gearbox and Ducati Quick Shift. Ducati lists 492 lb without fuel and a 31.1 in seat, and prices it from $27,995. It is a cruiser in shape only: the power and electronics are closer to a sport bike.

What testers say

Road and Track calls the bike's identity crisis the main story: despite touring amenities such as cruise control, it was hard to strap an overnight bag to the standard machine.

The reviewer, an experienced rider comfortable on large bikes, describes a formidable torso with an agile tail section and a massive 240 rear tire, and says the Quick Shift six-speed lets you go up through the upper gears without the clutch, a lifesaver in city traffic.

BikeNRider spent five days on the road with the 2026 bike and says the seat height, given as 780 mm, is accessible to a wide range of riders and the semi-forward foot position keeps knees comfortable on long stints.
