Polaris Ranger XP Kinetic — specification reference

Field & Stream says the XP Kinetic looks much like a gasoline Ranger XP 1000, with an 81-inch wheelbase, 14 inches of ground clearance and a three-person bench seat, and that it has the same 2,500 lb towing capacity as the XP 1000 but more power, 110 hp against the gas model.

It gives the range as 45 miles for the Premium with a 14.9 kWh lithium-ion battery and 80 miles for the Ultimate with a 29.8 kWh battery, and says the 140 foot-pounds of torque is something you can feel when you press the accelerator.

Dirt Wheels says the Kinetic has 10 inches of suspension travel, 14 inches of ground clearance and 29-inch Pro Armor X-Terrain tires like the Ranger XP 1000, and that the absent engine noise takes some getting used to when judging how much torque an obstacle needs, but that the Kinetic lacks nothing for power compared to gas models.

Polaris lists dual A-arm suspension with 10 in of travel at each end, 29 x 9-14 Pro Armor X-Terrain tires and a selectable on-demand all-wheel drive with a Turf Mode. It has high-output electric power steering, a gas-assist dump box with Lock & Ride integration and a 160 in turning radius. The machine weighs an estimated 1,982 lb dry, which is 343 lb more than the gasoline Ranger XP 1000 Premium's 1,639 lb estimated dry.

Ranger XP Kinetic against the Ranger XP 1000 Premium and Defender XU XT HD11

Polaris's own Ranger XP 1000 Premium is the gasoline sibling, and Can-Am's Defender XU XT HD11 is the closest gasoline rival in towing.

At $37,499 the Kinetic costs $15,700 more than the Ranger XP 1000 Premium at $21,799. That premium buys a motor with 110 hp and 140 lb-ft, quiet operation and no engine maintenance. But the Premium's 45-mile range is short for a full day of ranch work, which is why the 80-mile Ultimate exists.

Charging time and the availability of power at your barn decide whether it suits you. So ask a dealer for both before comparing prices.

The high voltage cables on the motor controller unit can be loose, causing the cable to arc or overheat while in use, po.

Field & Stream gives 45 miles for the Premium with a 14.9 kWh battery and 80 miles for the Ultimate with a 29.8 kWh battery. Range varies with load and terrain.

Polaris rates the electric motor at 110 hp and Field & Stream gives 140 lb-ft of torque. The tow rating is 2,500 lb, the same as the gas XP 1000.
