Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro specifications
Triumph · Adventure
Visordown says the seat comfort is top tier, as is the new T-plane 1200 engine, and that depending on the suspension setting and the Tiger 1200 model the system can lower the seat height by as much as 20 mm, which makes it easier for the vertically challenged.
It explains that on top of the rider-selected suspension tuning the bike has custom settings for each riding mode, with Sport giving the most support on the brakes and in turns and Off-Road softening the rebound, and says it only feels the slightest bit heavy when handling it manually or pootling around town at very slow speeds. Rider Magazine recalls the inline-three Triumphs built in Hinckley in the early 1990s.

Tiger 1200 against the big adventure bikes
At $22,095 the Tiger 1200 GT Pro costs $1,700 more than BMW's R 1300 GS at $20,395 and $6,896 more than Honda's Africa Twin at $15,199. It weighs 540 lb wet against 523 lb for the BMW and 510 lb for the Honda. Suzuki's V-Strom 1050 at $15,699 and 534 lb curb is the cheaper alternative.
Of these four the Triumph is the heaviest.
Size and weight against the smaller Tiger
The Tiger 1200 GT Pro is a big machine. It weighs 540 lb wet, 57 lb more than the Tiger 900 GT, and sits on a 61.41 in wheelbase with a seat adjustable from 33.46 to 34.52 in against the 900's 32.23 to 33.07 in. It has 7.87 in of travel at both ends against 7.1 in and 6.7 in on the 900, and a 49 mm Showa fork against a 45 mm Marzocchi.
Both carry 5.28 gal of fuel. The extra $6,900 over the 900 buys 41 more horsepower, shaft drive, semi-active suspension and a more refined electronics set.
Shaft drive and semi-active suspension in use
Shaft drive removes chain lubrication and adjustment, which suits a long-distance bike, and it is one reason the Tiger 1200 sits higher in the range than the chain-driven 900. The cited Tiger 1200 test describes a suspension function that reduces seat height by up to 20 mm.
That feature belongs to the tested 1200 configuration and must not be assumed on the Tiger 900 GT. The automatic electronic preload adjustment on the rear shock means the bike adjusts for load itself,.
Triumph lists Showa 49 mm semi-active damping upside-down forks with 7.87 in of travel and a Showa semi-active monoshock with automatic electronic preload adjustment and 7.87 in, Brembo M4.30 Stylema monoblock radial calipers on twin 320 mm floating discs, and a 282 mm rear disc. Geometry is a 61.41 in wheelbase, 24.0 degrees of rake and 4.72 in of trail, with 147 hp at 9,000 rpm and 95 lb-ft at 7,000 rpm.

Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro questions
Does the Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro have shaft drive?
Yes. Triumph lists a six-speed gearbox with shaft drive, 147 hp from the 1,160cc inline three and Showa semi-active suspension with 7.87 in of travel.
Can the Tiger 1200 lower its seat?
Visordown says the suspension system can reduce seat height by as much as 20 mm depending on the setting and model. The seat adjusts between two positions, 33.46 and 34.52 in.
The Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro is Triumph's largest adventure road bike, a 1,160cc liquid-cooled inline three rated at 147 hp with a six-speed gearbox and shaft drive. It is a heavy, well-equipped tourer with an adjustable seat, and Triumph prices it at $22,095.
Shaft drive removes chain lubrication and adjustment, which suits a long-distance bike, and it is one reason the Tiger 1200 sits higher in the range than the chain-driven 900. Visordown's remark that the suspension system can reduce seat height by up to 20 mm, and that each riding mode has its own suspension settings, shows the electronics do real work, from a firm Sport setting to a soft Off-Road one.
The automatic electronic preload adjustment on the rear shock means the bike adjusts for load itself,.
