KTM 50 SX specifications
KTM · Youth motocross
Total Motorcycle says the 50 SX is built around an advanced steel frame with a WP XACT AER fork, a WP XACT monoshock and a new hydraulic Formula brake system. It says fitting is easy thanks to height-adjustable suspension, handlebar position, subframe and bodywork, taking the seat from a low setting of 24.9 in (634 mm) to a taller setting of 26.8 in (682 mm).

Dirt Bike Magazine calls the 50 SX "a great machine for a wide variety of riders", though it says the bike can be a bit on the tall side and the price tag of around $4,000, at the time of its test, could be a shocker. KTM's price for the current bike is $5,099.
KTM lists a 35 mm WP XACT USD fork with 165 mm (6.5 in) of travel and a XACT shock with 190.5 mm (7.5 in), a 653 mm seat, 233 mm of ground clearance and a 0.61 gal tank. The claimed weight is 43.5 kg (96 lb) without fuel. Destination is $425, less than on the full-size bikes.
Where it sits in the youth ladder
The 50 SX is the entry point of KTM's SX range at $5,099. The 65 SX costs $800 more and adds a six-speed manual gearbox and a clutch. The 85 SX costs $1,050 more than the 65.
An electric alternative, the KTM SX-E 5, costs $5,799. Buyers should treat the 50 as a stage of a few seasons, not a long-term bike.
The 50 SX suits a young child with basic bike skills who is ready to start racing or riding on a track, and whose parents want an automatic. So the child has to manage only the throttle and brakes. Total Motorcycle's point that the seat height range is adjustable matters most, since a child grows quickly.
50 SX against the 65 SX and CRF50F
KTM's 65 SX is the next rung, and Honda's CRF50F is the common non-racing alternative.
