RevZilla spent four days on the 2026 bike. The article describes a high-performance thumper engine in a chassis with 10 inches of suspension travel and a nearly 37-inch seat height, at a shade under 80 horsepower, 340 pounds with a full tank and a base price of $13,400.
The reviewer also reports two tipovers, the second of which pushed the rear brake pedal into the redesigned clutch cover and left oil on a boot, and suggests that a bike on sale since 2008 should not have that problem.
Total Motorcycle describes the 2026 model's Euro 5+ LC4 single as having a revised crankcase, clutch and stator cover, and a redesigned oil system for reliability. It lists a 35.8 in (910 mm) seat height for the lowered version and adjustable suspension, brake and clutch levers and footrests.
Reliability reports
Owner reports are mixed. On Adventure Bike Rider one poster lists failed stators, failed fuel pumps, broken rocker arms, swingarm issues and cracked frames and calls the bike unreliable overall. While noting that some 690s have never had an issue.
KTM lists WP XPLOR USD forks with 265 mm (10.43 in) of travel and a XPLOR shock with 250 mm (9.84 in). Ground clearance of 265 mm sits with a 1,506 mm wheelbase. The steering geometry is 62.3 degrees of head angle over 120 mm of trail.
The wheels are 21-inch front and 18-inch rear, the front disc is 300 mm and the rear 240 mm, and the tank holds 3.51 gal.
Enduro R against SMC R
The 690 Enduro R and 690 SMC R share the same $13,399 price, the 79 PS single and the 152 kg dry weight. The Enduro R has 265 mm of front travel against 224 mm and a 935 mm seat against 899 mm. Choose the Enduro R for dirt and the SMC R for tarmac.
The 690 Enduro R is for a tall, experienced rider who wants a light, powerful single for rough tracks and also has a license to ride it to them. Motorcycle News says it is a handful and tall for anyone under 5 ft 10 in, although wonderful to ride. It is not a beginner's machine.
690 Enduro R against the 390 Enduro R and Ténéré 700
The 390 Enduro R is KTM's own smaller option, and the Ténéré 700 is the twin-cylinder rally-styled alternative.
KTM 690 Enduro R — specification referenceThe 690 Enduro R is KTM's big single dual-sport, and RevZilla describes it as still a high-performance thumper on 10 inches of travel. It is tall and demanding, and KTM asks $13,399 before destination.
Owner reports are mixed. On Adventure Bike Rider one poster lists failed stators, failed fuel pumps, broken rocker arms, swingarm issues and cracked frames and calls the bike unreliable overall. While noting that some 690s have never had an issue.
Engine Patrol lists eight common problems and mentions owners reporting a rev limiter that comes in too early and an engine malfunction light that comes on randomly, and it advises 2019 owners to ask the dealer about proper bolts rather than thread-locker. These are owner and site reports, and the 2026 model has a redesigned oil system and revised covers.
KTM lists a 935 mm seat and 265 mm ground clearance. RevZilla calls it a nearly 37-inch seat height. Motorcycle News says it is tall for anyone under 5 ft 10 in.
