KTM 790 Duke specifications

KTM · Naked

Visordown notes that the engine is outwardly much like the earlier version, though the tested European model is down on power at 93 bhp against 105 bhp for the 2018 machine.

The review says the ride quality from the WP suspension is "actually pretty good", although there is no adjustability as standard, and that a rider who is not bothered by outright power but wants the technology of a top-spec sports bike will find it in the 790 Duke.

It also lists a Track Pack that adds anti-wheelie off, launch control, spin adjustment and engine map selection.

Cycle News covers the 2027 update, which it calls the biggest overhaul since the bike's 2018 debut, refining virtually every area except the engine, the part that arguably needed the least attention.

Owner reviews on BikeDekho describe a 799cc engine at 104.6 PS with double disc brakes, dual-channel ABS and tubeless tires, plus stability control with cornering ABS. One owner says pickup and mileage are good and that comfort, braking and seat height are all fine. Another adds that the seat is comfortable but not for very long journeys.

KTM lists WP Apex suspension with a 43 mm open-cartridge fork and 150 mm (5.91 in) of travel, and a monoshock with 170 mm (6.69 in). The wheelbase is 1,475 mm, trail 98 mm, head angle 66 degrees, ground clearance 186 mm and the seat 825 mm. The 3.57 gal tank sits under a steel frame that uses the engine as a stressed member.

The rear is a single-piston caliper on a 240 mm disc.

The 790 Duke against the 990 Duke

The 790 is the lighter and cheaper of the two parallel-twin Dukes: $9,799 against $11,999, 167 kg against 179 kg. It gives up 18 PS and 0.34 gal of tank. Its 186 mm ground clearance is 9 mm lower than the 990's.

Choose the 790 for a light bike with the electronics of a bigger one.

Where the 790 sits in the Duke range

KTM builds the Duke as a ladder. The 790 is the rung where the price first passes $9,000. Below it the 250 Duke and 390 Duke are single-cylinder bikes with a fueled weight of 165 kg and seats of 800 to 820 mm, aimed at license-limited and first-time riders.

Above it the 990 Duke R costs $13,399 and makes 127.84 PS. The 1390 Super Duke R Evo costs $22,149 and makes 190 PS at 200 kg dry. Reading the range that way, the 790 is the cheapest Duke with a twin-cylinder engine and the full set of rider aids that Visordown lists, and the one that leaves the most money for a Track Pack or a tire change.

The 790 Duke is for a rider who wants a light, well-equipped naked bike and does not need to chase outright power. Visordown's point about the top-spec electronics is the real selling point, and BikeDekho owners report a comfortable seat for short and medium rides. It is a poor fit for someone who wants suspension adjustability without a paid upgrade.

Yamaha's MT-07 and Triumph's Trident 660 are the lower-priced middleweight nakeds in the same bracket.
