KTM 450 SX-F specifications
KTM · Motocross
Motocross Action race-tested the 2025 bike and describes a 60-horsepower powerplant with a broad, linear and ultra-manageable powerband. Total Motorcycle says the engine weighs only 59 lb (26.8 kg) and is placed for mass centralization and anti-squat behavior, and that the SX and SX-F range has easy-to-access service parts and suspension adjustability.
For 2025 it lists upgraded suspension settings at both ends to suit a new frame and rear linkage, aimed at weight distribution, stiffness and response.

A long-term owner view
Keefer Inc. put 50 hours on a 2019 450 SX-F and argues that a 50-hour engine on his scale is like a 75-80 hour engine for an average racer.
He notes that riders complained about the frame stiffness of the 2019 model, though as a long-term owner he preferred it, and says the delivery is smooth yet easier to ride and increases use of second and third gear. He also says the Vortex ignition lets a rider go faster with less effort because the workload is lower.
The 450 SX-F carries a WP XACT air fork with 310 mm (12.2 in) of travel and a XACT shock with 300 mm (11.81 in). Ground clearance is 343 mm (13.5 in), 11 mm less than the two-strokes, because the four-stroke's engine and exhaust sit differently. It has a five-speed gearbox and disc brakes at both ends.
The 1.9 gal tank is enough for a moto, not for an enduro.
Against the 250 SX and 300 SX two-strokes
KTM sells the same chassis with three engines. The 450 SX-F costs $11,649, while the two-stroke KTM 250 SX is $9,649 and the 300 SX $9,899. The four-stroke is 3.7 kg heavier than the two-strokes' 99.4 kg.
The price gap is $2,000 to $2,250, and it buys more weight, a larger engine and a more expensive maintenance schedule.
The 450 SX-F is a race bike for an advanced rider on a prepared motocross track. Testers describe manageable power, but it is still a 60-horsepower machine with a 958 mm seat that needs regular service. A trail rider should look at the XC-F version with its 2.25 gal tank instead.

The Honda CRF450R and Yamaha YZ450F are the main Japanese 450 motocross rivals.
