Motorcycle News says that with a 19-inch front wheel it is not the most hardcore off-roader. But thanks to long-travel suspension and its chassis and engine set-up it is supremely capable off-road and friendly and easy to ride as well. The same source says the 845 mm seat may seem high, though lower and taller options are available.

The narrow chassis makes finding the floor a doddle with impeccable balance at slow speeds. The write-up describes the engine as a stressed member within the new steel trellis frame, with a beefy Brembo front caliper and a 19-inch and 17-inch wheel combination, and adds that being brand new for 2026 its true reliability is unknown until it has been used in anger.

BikeWale says the engine makes 48 bhp and 43 Nm, in the same ballpark as other twins in its price band. But that real-world performance is athletic, helped by a 178 kg weight that contributes to its power-to-weight ratio.

What a new platform means for a buyer

The upside is a light, modern bike with a 33.3 in seat that is easy to plant thanks to its narrow build.

Against the KTM 390 Adventure and Honda NX500

KTM's 390 Adventure X and Honda's NX500 are the direct competitors. The BMW is listed at 392 lb road ready with a 420cc twin. So it sits in the same small adventure bracket as both.

The F 450 GS suits a rider who wants a light, modern, mid-priced BMW adventure bike for road and trail, and who is content to let the first model year prove itself.

BMW F 450 GS — specification reference

The F 450 GS is BMW's all-new sub-500cc adventure bike, with a 420cc twin as a stressed member of a steel trellis frame. Motorcycle News says it is supremely capable off-road yet easy to ride, and warns that its reliability is unproven.

First-year platforms often have small faults that appear only in service. Motorcycle News says as much. Buyers should check for recalls and service bulletins, ask about the dealer network and consider waiting for the first production year's fixes. The upside is a light, modern bike with a 33.3 in seat that is easy to plant thanks to its narrow build.

BikeWale says it makes 48 bhp and 43 Nm, in the same ballpark as other twins in its price band, but with athletic real-world performance.

Motorcycle News says it is supremely capable off-road thanks to its long-travel suspension, though the 19-inch front wheel means it is not the most hardcore.

Motorcycle News says the true reliability of the brand-new platform will not be known until it is on the market and used in anger.
