The tires are 120/70 ZR17 and 180/55 ZR17, the wheelbase is 59.96 in and the trail 4.13 in, and peak torque is 68 lb-ft at 6,750 rpm.
F 900 XR against the sport-tourers
At $12,695 the F 900 XR costs $96 more than Yamaha's Tracer 9 at $12,599 and $150 less than Triumph's Tiger Sport 800 at $12,845. It weighs 476 lb against 483 lb and 471 lb. Suzuki's GSX-S1000GT+ is $14,599 and Kawasaki's Ninja 1100SX $13,999.
The three mid-size rivals are within $250, so equipment and dealer support decide it.
Size, range and the F family
The F 900 XR shares its 895cc twin with the F 900 GS and F 900 R, which 4Riders points out. It weighs 476 lb road-ready fully fueled, 6 lb less than the F 900 GS, and has a 59.96 in wheelbase, 6.7 in of front travel and a 32.2 in seat, 2.0 in lower than the GS's 34.2 in. The 4.1 gal tank is 0.3 gal larger than the GS's.
At $12,695 the XR costs $1,700 less than the GS at $14,395 and $1,700 more than the F 800 GS at $10,995. So it is the road-oriented middle of the F family. The listed 68 lb-ft peak at 6,750 rpm is close to the GS’s 68.6 lb-ft figure.
Equipment to price before you buy
4Riders' bike had the Comfort package with a keyless system, cruise control, heated grips and hand guards, which are items many buyers regard as necessary on a sport-tourer. BMW sells options in packages. So the $12,695 base price does not include them, and a comparison against Yamaha's Tracer 9 at $12,599 or Triumph's Tiger Sport 800 at $12,845 should match the equipment. 4Riders’ 2025 test and fitted equipment.
The 320 mm front discs with four-piston radial calipers are larger than the GS's 305 mm front discs, which suits a road bike.
Against the other middleweight tourers
The F 900 XR costs $12,695, $2,200 more than the F 900 R at $10,495 and $96 more than Yamaha's Tracer 9 at $12,599. It weighs 476 lb road ready, 7 lb less than the Tracer's 483 lb wet. Its 32.2 in seat is 1.1 in lower than the Tracer's 33.3 in.
The 4.1 gal tank is 0.9 gal smaller than the Tracer's 5.0 gal. The Yamaha carries more fuel; tank capacity alone does not establish range.

Yamaha's Tracer 9 and Triumph's Tiger Sport 800 are the closest mid-size sport-tourers.
BMW F 900 XR — specification reference4Riders says under the tank is a 105-horsepower parallel twin designed in Germany and manufactured in China, the same engine that powers the F 900 GS and F 900 R. The report says the test bike had the Comfort package, which includes a keyless system, cruise control, heated grips and hand guards, small luxuries that enhance everyday comfort.
That engine origin is a fact some buyers care about, and it is worth asking a dealer about warranty terms.
BMW rates the 895cc parallel twin at 105 hp and 68 lb-ft at 6,750 rpm. 4Riders says it is the same engine as the F 900 GS and F 900 R.
