Yamaha WR250F specifications
Yamaha · Off-road
Dirt Bike Magazine says the WR250F is an easy bike to ride but a difficult bike to understand. It says everything is different from the previous WR250F, with a reverse-head motor with electric start cleanly integrated into the cases and weight shaved off almost everywhere.
The write-up warns that the WR pays a steep price for its silence, and puts the power in perspective: it is not quite as powerful as a 125 motocrosser but has a much longer, flatter power delivery.

What Dirt Bike Magazine found
Total Motorcycle calls it motocross-bred power and handling in a slim, lightweight chassis, the fastest and most fun 250 enduro Yamaha has made.
Yamaha lists a 77.0 x 53.6 mm bore and stroke with 13.8:1 compression, a six-speed gearbox, a KYB spring-type fork with speed-sensitive damping and a KYB single shock, both fully adjustable, and Dunlop Geomax MX33 tires, 80/100-21 and 110/100-18. The seat is 37.6 in, the wheelbase 57.9 in and the ground clearance 13.0 in. The bike weighs 249 lb wet.
WR250F against the rivals
At $9,199 the WR250F costs $800 less than Honda's CRF450X at $9,999, which is a 450cc bike weighing 275 lb curb. It weighs 249 lb wet and has a 37.6 in seat, 0.8 in lower than the YZ250's 38.4 in. It is the smaller, lighter choice for a rider who wants an enduro bike rather than a race machine.
Yamaha's WR450F is $10,499 and 256 lb.
WR250F against the YZ250 motocross bike
The WR250F is a four-stroke built for the woods. The YZ250 beside it is a two-stroke built for the track. It has a 2.0 gal tank against 1.8 gal, a lower 37.6 in seat, 13.0 in of ground clearance and a 6-speed gearbox, and it runs Dunlop Geomax MX33 tires, 80/100-21 and 110/100-18.
Its 249 lb wet weight is 22 lb more than the YZ250's 227 lb. The four-stroke engine, larger tank and electric start are the obvious differences. The engine's 13.8:1 compression ratio and 77.0 x 53.6 mm bore and stroke are the numbers of a high-revving, short-stroke four-stroke.
The WR250F suits a rider who wants a light, easy-to-control enduro machine and values traction control and a lithium battery. Dirt Bike Magazine's remark that it is not quite as powerful as a 125 motocrosser but has a longer, flatter delivery explains its character: it is friendly, not fast.
A rider who wants more power should look at the WR450F at $10,499, and one who wants a race bike should look at the YZ250 at $8,099.
The 2027 WR250F costs $9,199 plus $675 destination.
WR250F against the CRF450X and WR450F
Honda's CRF450X is the larger four-stroke enduro rival, and Yamaha's own WR450F is the bigger sibling.
