How the 1100SX rides
The 1100SX is a strong, stable tourer. Motorcycle News says that despite weighing around 235 kg fully fueled it proved agile and stable, flicking confidently through corners and driving hard out of slower ones on a strong midrange, and calls the larger, torquier engine, refined quickshifter, quality Öhlins suspension (on the SE) and rider-friendly ergonomics the recipe for both spirited rides and long-distance comfort.
The engine never lacked power or drama and still does not, though engine braking and throttle pick-up can be choppy at low speed. 1000PS calls the seating position comfortable for medium-sized riders with a good balance between sportiness and long-distance comfort, and lists Brembo M4.32 calipers with steel braided lines for precise, powerful braking.
What changed from the Ninja 1000SX
Kawasaki gave up some top-end power for a better midrange. MCN says power moved from 140 bhp at 10,000 rpm to 134 bhp at 9,000 rpm, with more punch at low revs and an extra 1 lb-ft of torque, and that the new engine makes more power and torque everywhere in the midrange, with the old 1000 only edging ahead above 7,000 rpm.
1000PS adds that torque arrives 400 rpm earlier and peak power 1,000 rpm earlier in the Euro 5+ compliant engine. Kawasaki's lower-spec base model has simpler suspension and brakes.
The SE adds the Öhlins hardware.

Suzuki's GSX-S1000GT+ is the direct competitor at $14,599 and 498 lb, BMW's S 1000 XR costs $18,825 at 500 lb, and Yamaha's FJR1300ES is a 1,298cc tourer at 642 lb. The Kawasaki is the cheapest of the group at $13,999 and the heaviest of the three 1000cc bikes at 518.2 lb.
Kawasaki Ninja 1100SX — specification referenceThe 1100SX has a range near 200 miles. MCN says Kawasaki claims 50 mpg, a theoretical 209 miles from the unchanged 19-liter tank, and that heavier handlebar ends, rubber dampers in the heel plates and lead weights in the footrests cut down on engine vibration reaching the rider and passenger.
It reports that owner reviews of the previous Ninja 1000 are impeccable for reliability and dealer service, a good sign for a bike that shares its lineage. Motoryk cautions against the 1100SX for a rider who wants a focused, lightweight canyon carver.
