What the Hornet SP adds over the standard CB1000 Hornet

The SP is the up-spec Hornet. Motorcycle News describes a 155 bhp superbike-derived engine with a top-spec Öhlins TTX36 rear shock, Brembo Stylema brakes, a quickshifter, an auto blipper and a full set of electronic rider aids.

The standard Hornet already has combined traction and wheelie control, engine brake control, adjustable rider and power modes, ABS, a 5-inch color dash with Bluetooth and fully adjustable Showa forks, so the SP's premium buys the Öhlins shock and the Stylema calipers.

Riding the Hornet SP day to day

The Hornet SP is a sporting bike first. In its long-term test, MCN wrote that Hornet happiness comes from keeping the engine in the upper half of the rev range, and that the slim seat pad and rearset footpegs put a hard limit on touring ambitions. It is a machine for fast road riding and short trips, and a rider who plans long days should try the seat first.

Reliability and used-buying notes

That is a UK recall, so check the VIN with a US dealer and ask a seller for the oil-consumption history.

Hornet SP against the MT-10 and Z900

Yamaha's MT-10 is the closest rival in character and priced well above the Hornet SP, at $14,999 and 467 lb; a comparison at 1000PS praised the Honda's engine, suspension, brakes and price-to-performance ratio. Kawasaki's Z900 is the cheaper, less exotic choice at $9,999 with a 948cc engine.

2026 Honda CB1000 Hornet SP questions

What is the difference between the CB1000 Hornet and the Hornet SP?

The SP adds a top-spec Öhlins TTX36 rear shock and Brembo Stylema front brakes to the same 1000cc engine and electronics. The standard bike has fully adjustable Showa suspension and the same rider aids.

Is the Honda CB1000 Hornet SP comfortable for long rides?

Not especially. MCN's long-term test found the slim seat pad and rearset footpegs limit any touring plans. The bike rewards a rider who keeps the engine in the upper half of its rev range.

The 2026 Honda CB1000 Hornet SP is a 1000cc inline-four naked bike with a quick shifter, a slipper clutch and a Brembo master cylinder. The SP has an Öhlins rear shock and Brembo Stylema front brakes, plus a full set of rider aids, on a chassis reviewers call a bargain for its performance.

It suits a rider who wants a fast, spirited naked bike and is happy to keep the engine revving, and it offers little comfort for touring.

The Hornet's engine is an old, proven one. MCN notes it uses the engine from the 2017 to 2019 Fireblade and, according to owner reviews at the time, the inline-four had been completely reliable. One report to check before buying: Corner Speed Blog says Honda recalled standard and SP Hornets in the UK after reports of excessive oil consumption, with owners documenting losing about three-quarters of a liter in short distances.

That is a UK recall, so check the VIN with a US dealer and ask a seller for the oil-consumption history.
