Africa Twin or Africa Twin Adventure Sports
Honda sells two Africa Twins, and they answer different questions. A 2026 review of the Adventure Sports ES explains the split: the plain Africa Twin is the off-road-focused CRF1100L. The Adventure Sports is the more road-focused touring version with a 19-inch front wheel, comfort equipment and, on the ES, Showa electronically adjusted suspension.
The plain Africa Twin configuration has a 21-inch front wheel, 9.1 in of fork travel and wire-spoked wheels that suit off-road tires. Choose the Adventure Sports for fast tarmac and two-up touring, and this one if dirt roads are part of the plan.
How the Africa Twin rides for its size
The current Africa Twin is a much easier bike than the ones before it. MyPitShop says that before 2024 every Africa Twin was big, tall and massive, and intimidating at low speeds and off road, and that the 2024 generation made Honda competitive on manageability without giving up the model's character.
At 510 lb wet with a 34.3 in seat, it is still a large bike, and shorter riders can use the 33.5 in low seat position.
A dual-clutch automatic is available, and MyPitShop calls the DCT in Sport 2 and manual mode involving and fun. While noting that off-road riding needs different DCT settings than highway touring. Riders who want a purely manual bike can take the six-speed manual configuration listed here.
Off-road ability compared with rivals
The Africa Twin is a strong off-road bike but not the class leader. In a three-way ride, Bikenrider ranked the Ténéré 700 Rally first off road, the Africa Twin DCT a strong second and the Tiger 900 GT Pro third. Poway Powersports gives the KTM 890 Adventure R the lead for aggressive off-road riding with the fewest compromises.
Africa Twin against the Ténéré 700 and KTM 890 Adventure R
the Ténéré 700 and the KTM 890 Adventure R both use smaller engines than the Africa Twin's 1,084cc, and the comparisons above rate both as more capable in the dirt. The Honda's case rests on its larger engine and the option of a dual-clutch transmission.

It suits an experienced rider who wants one bike for long tours and real dirt, and the 2024 redesign made it far less intimidating than earlier Africa Twins.

The seat is 34.3 in in the standard position and 33.5 in in the low position, and the bike weighs 510 lb wet. Reviewers say the 2024 redesign made it much more manageable at low speed than earlier Africa Twins, but a shorter rider should sit on one first.
