Honda Dax 125 specifications, dimensions and price
Honda · Mini-moto
Honda’s Dax 125 combines a 124cc single-cylinder engine with a four-speed gearbox and automatic clutch. It differs from the manual-clutch Grom despite their similar small-bike role. Check control operation and rider fit before choosing between them; an automatic clutch still requires the rider to select gears.

How the semi-automatic transmission works
The Dax has a gearshift but no clutch lever. RevZilla explains that the rider pushes or pulls the shifter and how long they hold it before letting it spring back decides how long the engine is decoupled from the transmission, and says the thing they love most about the Dax's idiot-proof powertrain is that it suits any type of rider.
It uses practically the same 124cc engine as the Trail 125, Super Cub, Honda Monkey and Grom.
Brakes, wheels and value
The Dax is a small-wheel bike with small-bike limits. Rider Magazine notes it rides on 12-inch wheels with Nissin brake calipers, that the fuel filler is under the seat, and that the tester wanted stronger brakes at times, a feeling that faded once they got used to the transmission and to using engine braking.
The magazine's larger question is whether the fun is worth the $4,199 price, which is on its way to affording a small but full-size motorcycle that can carry the rider on the highway.
What shifting a Dax is like, and what else costs the same
The Dax's shifter takes a few rides to master. Rider Magazine explains that there is no clutch lever but the rider still uses a heel-toe foot shifter, with neutral at the bottom and fourth at the top, and that unlike a manual bike the Dax leaves no room to match throttle to engine speed before the clutch engages. Once you get used to it, shifting without worrying about a lever simplifies the ride.
The narrow 1 gal frame is a convenient place to stand over at intersections. The suspension is perfectly adequate for back-road shortcuts and puttering around town.
RevZilla adds that the Grom and Honda Monkey are motorcycles in miniature with clutch levers and five-speed transmissions. While the Dax, like the Trail 125 and Super Cub, uses the semi-automatic gearbox, which makes it nearly impossible to stall. Rider Magazine also points out that Honda's Rebel 300 costs only $650 more than the Dax and comes with a six-speed manual and a 286cc single in a more real-motorcycle stance.
Dax 125 against the Grom, Monkey and Trail125
All four use the same 124cc engine. The Grom is the cheapest at $3,599 with a five-speed manual, a 30.0 in seat and 224 lb. The Honda Monkey costs $4,399 and the Trail125 $4,199 with a 31.5 in seat and 256 lb.
The Dax and Trail125 share the semi-automatic transmission.
Honda Dax 125 — specification referenceThe 2026 Honda Dax 125 is a retro mini-moto with a 124cc fuel-injected single, a four-speed semi-automatic transmission, twin rear shocks and 12-inch wheels. It shares its engine with the Grom, Monkey and Trail125. Reviewers say the powertrain is idiot-proof and good for any rider, and question whether the fun is worth a price that is heading toward a small full-size motorcycle.

Not a lever. It has a four-speed semi-automatic transmission: the rider shifts with a foot lever, and an automatic clutch handles the rest, as RevZilla explains.
It is sold as a small motorcycle. But a 124cc single on 12-inch wheels is a city and back-road bike. Rider Magazine notes its $4,199 price approaches that of a small full-size motorcycle that can carry a rider on the highway.
