What the Grom is like to ride

The Grom is a small bike that is easy to enjoy and not fast. RevZilla says the five-speed transmission will carry most riders to about 50 mph and then gradually approach a mile a minute, and that at 224 lb ready to ride with a full tank it is just the ticket for laughing in your helmet.

The broad, flat seat gives larger riders room to find a comfortable position, though it may leave little room for a passenger.

Sportbikes Inc found that climbing hills was a bit of a struggle on power-to-weight grounds. While flat ground and downhills were sheer joy.

What changed on the current Grom

The current Grom has new styling on the same running gear. Sportbikes Inc notes the 125cc two-valve air-cooled five-speed engine is unchanged and the angled 2025 body has a new headlight, tank and side covers. Honda sells accessory packages such as knuckle visors, a meter visor, an undercowl and a cloth seat bag.

RevZilla notes prices rose slightly but remain easy on the wallet compared with most new motorcycles, especially for a first-time rider.

History and who really buys a Grom

The Grom has been around since 2014 and has an unusually loyal following. RevZilla notes Honda introduced it for the 2014 model year, that the tester has seen more than a few hanging off the back of a giant RV for short-range transport around campgrounds and parks, and that some riders never bothered to graduate to something larger after years of ownership.

Shifting is slick, the brakes are totally adequate and the clutch pull is as light as they come.

Take a Grom downhill with a tailwind and you may see more than 65 mph with your chin on the tank.

Sportbikes Inc lists the current trims: the $3,699 SP in Matte Black Metallic and the $3,799 ABS model in Pearl White.

Grom against the Monkey, Z125 Pro and Dax

Honda's own Honda Monkey and Dax share the Grom's 124cc engine and cost more: the Honda Monkey is $4,399 and the Dax $4,199,. Kawasaki's Z125 Pro is the competing 125cc, at $3,799. The Grom is the cheapest of the group.

2026 Honda Grom questions

How fast is a Honda Grom?

RevZilla says the five-speed transmission carries most riders to about 50 mph and then gradually approaches a mile a minute. Hills slow it, as Sportbikes Inc found.

What is the difference between the Grom, Grom SP and Grom ABS?

The base Grom is $3,599, the SP is $3,699 and the ABS version is $3,799, each with a $300 destination charge. The ABS model adds anti-lock brakes to the same 124cc engine and five-speed gearbox.

The 2026 Honda Grom is a 124cc mini-moto with an air-cooled single, a five-speed manual gearbox, a #420 chain and 12-inch cast wheels. Reviewers call it a featherweight that is cheap next to most new motorcycles. It suits a commuter or a new rider who wants a small, light bike, and it labors on hills and above about 50 mph.
